Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there today!
For me, Father’s Day is always a bit bittersweet. I’m incredibly blessed to be a father, but I deeply miss my own dad, David Poindexter, who passed away several years ago. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about him. He left an incredible legacy, and I’m thankful every day for the life lessons he taught me—not just about business, but about faith, kindness, and how to live with purpose.
If it weren’t for my dad, I wouldn’t have found my path in real estate. And truthfully, I wouldn’t have met my wife, Angie, without him either. Everything I have today started because of the foundation he built for me.
A Man of Many Gifts
My dad wasn’t just a great Realtor—he was hilariously funny, a master of practical jokes, and one of the most talented artists I’ve ever known. He had a sharp wit and could always make people laugh, even in tough moments. But what really made him special was his heart.
He taught me everything I know about real estate. I shadowed him for three years before striking out on my own. He was a natural—top-producing Realtor his very first year in the business. His strategy? Riding the elevators in downtown OKC all day, every day, striking up conversations and landing clients within 30 seconds. And it worked—he built a thriving business through hustle, charm, and sincerity.
But his real gift was how he treated people. Everyone seemed to love my parents. I can’t tell you how honored I feel when people come up to me and share incredible stories about what my mom and dad did for them.
One memory that stays with me: I once watched as a woman broke down in tears in front of our office—her car engine smoking, kids crying in the backseat. Without hesitation, my dad rushed out, helped her get the car to a shop, paid for all the repairs, and made sure she and her family were okay.
A Man of Bold Faith
Above all, my dad’s greatest mission was sharing his faith in Christ. And he did it boldly. I saw him lead people to Christ everywhere—on airplanes, at gas stations in Tucumcari, New Mexico, at football games, you name it.
Even after he retired from real estate, he went to work as a greeter at Build-A-Bear in Penn Square Mall—not because he needed the job, but because he wanted to keep spreading joy and sharing the Gospel. He didn’t even want to be paid. That’s the kind of man he was. He truly lived what it means to be a Christian, and I am so honored to be his son.
Wisdom That Stays With Me
One of the greatest lessons my dad taught me was this:
“Things will never change until you decide to change them.”
I’ve carried that with me my entire career. It’s a reminder that we have the power to shape our own path, create our own opportunities, and take action rather than waiting for change to come. That mindset has guided me through every challenge and every success.
A Message for Today
To all the fathers out there: Thank you for the impact you make every day. Whether it’s big moments or small gestures, your influence matters more than you may ever know.
As Proverbs 20:7 reminds us:
“The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.”
And Psalm 103:13 tells us:
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.”
Happy Father’s Day. May we honor the dads who shaped us, remember those who have gone before us, and strive to be the kind of fathers who leave a legacy of love, faith, and strength.
