“Hello? Is It Feedback You’re Looking For?”
Why Getting Showing Feedback Feels Like a Scene from CSI: Real Estate Edition
If you’ve ever listed a home as a Realtor, you already know the moment that follows every single showing:
Your seller texts you with breathless anticipation:
“What did they think?? Did they LOVE it? Did they say anything???”
And you—doing your best impression of a calm, collected professional—smile and say,
“I’ll follow up and let you know as soon as I hear something.”
But here’s what really happens:
You send the request.
You text.
You call.
You email.
You submit the showing feedback form.
You try telepathy.
You bribe them with coffee emojis.
And still… crickets.
It’s as if once a showing ends, the buyers and their agents are placed in witness protection.
The Great Feedback Chase
Buyers’ agents vanish like Houdini. One minute they’re scheduling a showing, the next minute you’re reenacting a crime scene:
-
The door was locked.
-
Lights were off.
-
Alarm was armed.
-
But no sign of feedback.
You check your phone like a teenager waiting for a crush to text back.
Nothing.
You email again with a friendly tone:
"Hey! Just wanted to get your thoughts from today’s showing "
Still nothing. So you tone it up a bit:
"Any chance you could share even a little feedback? Seller’s anxious!"
Days go by. Your seller is now convinced that the lack of feedback means their house is haunted or priced $300,000 too high. Meanwhile, you’re just trying to figure out if the buyers even made it inside the house.
Actual Feedback You Do Get:
If and when feedback does trickle in, it’s often… well… less than useful:
-
“They liked it but decided to go another direction.” (What direction? The neighbor's?)
-
“Too many stairs.” (It’s a two-story home. Listed as such. With stairs. Shocking.)
-
“Didn’t love the vibe.” (Ah, yes, the mysterious and measurable metric of vibe.)
-
“The husband liked it but the wife didn’t.” (And there it is—the classic veto.)
Sellers Deserve Better (And So Do We)
Sellers put effort into making their homes show-ready. They light candles, hide laundry, bribe their kids to behave, and sneak their pets into the car for an hour. The least we can do is give them a few thoughts after a showing, even if it’s not what they want to hear.
And as Realtors, we’re not looking for Shakespeare. Just a simple, “Great house but not the right fit” would work wonders.
Let’s Start a Movement: #FeedbackMatters
So here’s my humble plea to all buyer’s agents out there:
If you show a home, please take 30 seconds to send feedback.
You’ll make a listing agent’s day, a seller’s week, and restore faith in our shared real estate humanity.
Because feedback—real, honest, timely feedback—helps sellers adjust, helps us do our jobs, and just might help your buyers too.
Until then, I’ll just be over here refreshing my email.
