In Good Company: The Relationships Behind The Agency
By Wyatt Poindexter – Managing Partner, The Agency Oklahoma
Real estate is a relationship business. We talk about that often in terms of our clients, but the relationships we build with other agents matter just as much. Knowing who to call, having someone you trust in another market and being willing to share ideas can make a meaningful difference in the service we provide.
I was reminded of that recently when our Oklahoma group joined our Texas colleagues for The Agency’s “In Good Company” event. We also had the opportunity to celebrate the launch of the new Fort Worth office. It was a great few days of conversations, introductions and time with people who share our commitment to this business.
I came home with new connections, fresh ideas and an even greater appreciation for the people behind The Agency.
The Value of Being in the Room
Some of the best conversations at an event happen between the scheduled activities. You meet an agent, ask about their market and discover they are working through many of the same challenges you are.
What is getting buyers to act? How are sellers responding to feedback? Which marketing strategies are generating meaningful conversations? How do you keep delivering exceptional service when a transaction becomes difficult?
Those discussions are valuable because they come from people doing the work every day. An agent in Texas may have an approach that helps us serve a seller in Oklahoma. We may share an experience that helps them navigate their next transaction.
Even after 31 years in real estate, I still want to learn. Experience gives you perspective, but staying curious keeps you improving. Being around thoughtful, hardworking agents is one of the best ways to do that.
Connections That Carry Beyond the Event
Networking becomes valuable when the relationship continues after everyone goes home.
Oklahoma and Texas have a natural connection. Clients move between our states for work, family, business and lifestyle. When someone asks me for help in another market, I want to introduce them to an agent whose judgment and service I trust.
Meeting our Texas colleagues in person strengthens those introductions. You get to know how someone communicates, how they approaches their business and what matters to them. That understanding helps you make a more thoughtful connection for a client.
It also makes collaboration easier. A conversation started at “In Good Company” can become a referral, an exchange of market insight or a connection that helps a property reach the right person.
For our clients, those relationships extend the resources available to them.
Sharing Ideas Makes Us Better
One of the things I appreciate about The Agency is the opportunity to connect with people who are generous with their knowledge.
Real estate requires us to make decisions constantly. Pricing, presentation, marketing, negotiation and communication all influence a client’s experience. Having trusted colleagues to exchange ideas with gives us another source of perspective.
Sometimes a conversation confirms that you are on the right track. Sometimes it challenges you to improve. Both are useful.
That is why I believe collaboration deserves a place in our schedules. We spend so much time managing the immediate demands of our businesses that it is easy to overlook the value of stepping away, listening and learning from someone else.
The goal is to return better prepared to serve the people who count on us.
Celebrating The Agency Fort Worth
The launch party for the new Fort Worth office gave us another reason to come together.
With live music, artists, food, drinks and bull riding, it was a celebration with plenty of Texas personality. More than anything, it was an opportunity to support our Fort Worth colleagues as they begin an exciting new chapter.
Opening an office takes vision, commitment and an enormous amount of work. It was a pleasure to be there, celebrate that effort and see the enthusiasm surrounding the team.
Congratulations to our Fort Worth family. We are excited for you and look forward to building on the relationships we started.
Time With Mauricio Umansky
We always appreciate the opportunity to have our leader, Mauricio Umansky, join us.
His experience and expertise bring valuable perspective to these gatherings. Spending time with someone who has helped build The Agency gives us an opportunity to learn from his understanding of the business and his vision for the brand.
I also appreciate what his presence means to the agents in the room. Leadership feels personal when there is time to connect, have conversations and share in the celebration.
For our Oklahoma group, it was another opportunity to listen, learn and bring that energy back to our own offices.
Bringing It Home to Oklahoma
At The Agency Oklahoma, we are proud of our local roots and the relationships we have built throughout our communities. We are also proud to be connected to colleagues who broaden what we can offer our clients.
The value of that connection shows up in practical ways: a trusted introduction, another perspective on a difficult situation, a useful marketing idea or a conversation that opens a door.
“In Good Company” captured that spirit beautifully. We had time to celebrate, but we also strengthened relationships that can continue to benefit our businesses and the people we serve.
Thank you to everyone who helped bring the event together, to our Texas colleagues for welcoming us and to Mauricio for joining us. We loved spending time with our Texas family.
We are already looking forward to next year—and to everything we can accomplish together before then.
