What The Agency Has Done for Me Personally and What It Means for Oklahoma Luxury Real Estate
Leaving Keller Williams Realty was one of the most significant professional decisions I have made during my 31-year real estate career.
I experienced tremendous success there, built relationships I will always value, and achieved milestones I once could not have imagined. I will always be grateful for that chapter of my career. However, there came a point when I realized I needed something different for the future of my business.
I was not simply looking for another brokerage. I was looking for a company built specifically for the luxury real estate market.
For years, I searched for a real estate company in Oklahoma that truly concentrated on representing luxury homes. Oklahoma has many talented agents and locally owned brokerages, but there are very few companies here built entirely around luxury real estate. Some smaller independent companies claim to specialize in luxury, but they often lack the global recognition, referral network, technology, marketing infrastructure, media relationships, and international reach necessary to compete at the highest level.
Other companies continue operating from older brokerage models that may have worked well in the past but are not designed for how luxury homes are marketed and sold today.
Luxury real estate has changed. A sign in the yard, professional photography, an MLS listing, and a social media post are no longer enough. Today’s luxury sellers need global exposure, exceptional creative work, strategic digital marketing, public relations, sophisticated technology, national media relationships, and access to agents and buyers throughout the world.
That was what I was looking for, and The Agency was the only company that had everything I needed.
The Conversation That Changed Everything
Before joining The Agency, I gave its leadership a detailed list of everything I believed a modern luxury real estate company should provide.
It was a long list.
I wanted world-class branding, global recognition, advanced technology, professional marketing, an internal public relations department, national media relationships, luxury referrals, networking opportunities, exceptional creative services, and a culture where agents genuinely collaborate.
I expected there to be some hesitation or at least a discussion about which requests could realistically be accommodated.
Their response was essentially, “Is that it?”
They already had everything on my list.
Then they began showing me all the additional resources, opportunities, systems, relationships, and services I had not even thought to request.
That was the moment I realized The Agency was not trying to become the luxury real estate company of the future. It was already building that future.
The History of The Agency
The Agency was founded in Beverly Hills by Mauricio Umansky and a group of founding partners who believed the traditional real estate brokerage model needed to be reimagined.
Instead of creating another large company where agents competed against one another and operated independently, they built a global boutique brokerage around collaboration, creativity, culture, technology, and service.
The concept was simple but different: one connected community in which agents share relationships, information, resources, and opportunities.
The Agency has since grown to more than 130 offices across over 13 countries while maintaining its identity as a global boutique luxury brokerage. The company provides its agents and clients with shared international resources, including in-house creative, public relations, and technology divisions. It has also been recognized as a top luxury brokerage and as one of America’s fastest-growing private companies. The Agency’s official history and company information
That growth matters, but the number of offices is not the most important part.
The real strength of The Agency is that those offices are connected.
When I represent a luxury property in Oklahoma, I am not marketing it from one isolated office. I can introduce it to an international network of luxury agents serving many of the world’s most important real estate markets and destinations.
That is a tremendous advantage for Oklahoma sellers.
What The Agency Has Done for Me Personally
Joining The Agency completely changed how I view my business.
I had already been selling luxury real estate for many years. I understood Oklahoma, knew how to market homes, had an established client base, and had built a strong social media presence. What I needed was a company capable of expanding everything I had already created.
The Agency gave me that platform.
It did not change who I was or ask me to abandon the personal brand and relationships I had spent decades building. It gave me the resources to elevate them.
The company has helped me think beyond the local MLS and beyond traditional Oklahoma real estate marketing. It has provided access to agents, executives, publicists, creative professionals, technology specialists, and luxury markets I would never have been able to reach through a traditional local brokerage model.
It has also connected me with people throughout the company who genuinely want to help.
When I contact another Agency office about a buyer, seller, relocation, or listing, I am not making a cold call to a stranger at an unrelated company. I am reaching out to a colleague within the same global community.
That distinction matters.
National and International Name Recognition
Luxury buyers and sellers frequently recognize The Agency before they ever meet the individual agent.
The brand began in Beverly Hills and has become associated with significant homes, prominent clients, international destinations, exceptional marketing, and luxury service. That recognition creates an immediate level of credibility that a small independent brokerage cannot easily reproduce outside its home market.
For an Oklahoma seller, the company name helps communicate that the property is being presented on a much larger stage.
The Agency brand can open doors with buyers, agents, relocation contacts, media outlets, and luxury professionals in other markets. It allows an Oklahoma property to be positioned alongside exceptional homes throughout the country and around the world.
That does not mean a famous name replaces the work of the local agent. The agent must still understand the market, price the property correctly, develop the strategy, communicate with the seller, negotiate the transaction, and do the daily work required to sell the home.
The difference is that the agent is no longer doing that work alone.
A Powerful Referral Network
One of the most meaningful advantages of The Agency is its referral network.
Luxury clients do not always move in predictable patterns. Someone relocating to Oklahoma may be coming from California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, New York, Canada, Mexico, or another international market. Likewise, an Oklahoma client may be purchasing a second home, investment property, vacation residence, or primary residence somewhere else.
The Agency gives us direct relationships in those markets.
Referrals are not simply names entered into a corporate database. They frequently begin with genuine relationships formed through company meetings, conferences, networking events, leadership gatherings, property tours, and daily communication between offices.
I know the agents receiving my clients, and they understand the level of service our clients expect.
That creates continuity. A client can leave Oklahoma and still receive the culture, service, communication, and professionalism associated with The Agency.
Networking That Creates Real Opportunities
The Agency’s networking events are very different from ordinary corporate meetings.
They bring together high-performing agents, managing partners, company leaders, marketing professionals, and specialists from markets throughout the world. These gatherings create opportunities to discuss listings, exchange referrals, learn what buyers are seeking, study new technology, and build relationships that continue long after the event ends.
For me, those relationships have been invaluable.
Real estate is still a relationship business. Technology can expand our reach, but trust is what causes an agent in another market to call us when a client is moving to Oklahoma or looking for a significant estate, ranch, lakefront residence, gated property, or luxury home.
The Agency creates an environment where those relationships can develop naturally.
Public Relations That Extends Beyond Advertising
Public relations is one of the greatest differences between The Agency and a traditional locally owned brokerage.
Advertising is something you purchase. Public relations is something you earn by presenting a property or story that a media outlet believes is worth covering.
The Agency has an in-house public relations division that understands luxury real estate, architecture, design, celebrity connections, exceptional amenities, unusual properties, and the kinds of stories that attract regional, national, and international media attention.
I have personally seen what that can do for an Oklahoma listing.
The right property can reach far beyond the MLS through national publications, major real estate websites, sports media, luxury outlets, television coverage, social media accounts, and other influential platforms. My Stillwater luxury estate listing, owned by former Major League Baseball player Matt Holliday, received attention from Mansion Global, ESPN, Realtor.com, Homes.com, Bleacher Report, Zillow Gone Wild, and other major outlets.
That level of exposure would be extraordinarily difficult for a small local brokerage to create independently.
Public relations cannot guarantee that a property will sell, and not every listing will qualify for national media coverage. However, when a property has a compelling story, The Agency has the experience and relationships to recognize it, package it correctly, and place it in front of the right people.
Marketing Built for the Modern Luxury Buyer
Luxury buyers are not all searching for homes in the same place.
They may discover a property through Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Google, an online publication, an agent referral, a private conversation, an email campaign, a national article, or a video shared by someone thousands of miles away.
That means luxury marketing must be coordinated across many platforms.
The Agency’s in-house creative resources, recognizable visual identity, editorial approach, technology, global website, public relations team, social media presence, and international network work together to create that reach.
This is not marketing designed around how real estate was sold 15 or 20 years ago. It is built around how people discover, research, evaluate, and share properties today.
That was exactly what I wanted when I began looking for a different company.
The Difference Between Local Ownership and Global Resources
The Agency Oklahoma is locally owned and locally led. Wayne Kirby and I understand Oklahoma because we live here, work here, raise our families here, and have spent decades building relationships throughout this state.
Our clients receive local leadership and local market knowledge, but we are supported by a global luxury organization.
That combination is difficult to duplicate.
A small independent brokerage may offer local ownership and personal service, but it generally cannot reproduce the name recognition, international referral network, internal creative services, worldwide offices, technology, public relations resources, and media reach of The Agency.
A large traditional brokerage may offer size, but size alone does not create a luxury identity. A company can have thousands of agents and still lack a focused, cohesive strategy for representing exceptional properties.
The Agency combines boutique service with global scale.
That is the major difference.
What The Agency Means for Oklahoma Luxury Homes
Oklahoma has extraordinary luxury properties.
We have architecturally significant residences, large estates, working ranches, equestrian properties, lakefront homes, golf-course homes, gated communities, historic homes, modern new construction, recreational properties, and land that would be nearly impossible to find at the same scale in many other parts of the country.
For too long, many of these homes have been marketed primarily as local properties.
The Agency gives us the opportunity to present them as part of the national and international luxury market.
When The Agency opened its first Oklahoma office in 2024, the company selected Wayne Kirby and me to lead it as Managing Partners. Mauricio Umansky described our goal as building a formidable Oklahoma presence while helping redefine the real estate experience in markets throughout the United States and beyond. The Agency’s Oklahoma City launch announcement
That responsibility has always meant more to me than opening another real estate office.
It means showing the rest of the world what exists in Oklahoma.
It means giving Oklahoma sellers access to a level of branding, marketing, technology, public relations, networking, and international exposure that was previously difficult to find here.
It also means creating a home for Oklahoma agents who want to specialize in luxury real estate without operating within an outdated or isolated model.
Mauricio Umansky’s Vision for the Future
Mauricio Umansky continues to lead The Agency with a clear understanding that the real estate industry cannot stand still.
Luxury clients expect more. Agents need better technology, stronger marketing, wider relationships, faster communication, and more sophisticated tools. Properties must be presented at the level today’s buyers expect, regardless of whether the home is located in Beverly Hills, Miami, New York, Mexico, Europe, Oklahoma City, Edmond, Arcadia, Tulsa, Grand Lake, or Carlton Landing.
Mauricio has remained committed to ensuring that Agency offices and agents have the resources needed to compete in a rapidly changing industry.
That leadership is one of the reasons I believe The Agency is the luxury real estate company of the future.
The company is not protecting an old model simply because that is how business has always been done. It is constantly looking at what comes next.
More Than a Brokerage Change
Leaving Keller Williams and joining The Agency was not simply a move from one company to another.
It was a decision about the future of my business, my clients, my listings, and luxury real estate in Oklahoma.
The Agency has given me the global platform, name recognition, referrals, relationships, events, technology, creative support, and public relations capabilities I had been searching for.
More importantly, it has given me an opportunity to help build something Oklahoma did not previously have at this scale: a locally led luxury brokerage connected to one of the most recognizable and forward-thinking real estate brands in the world.
I knew what I wanted when I gave The Agency that original list.
What I did not know was how much more was possible.
