Which Edmond holiday event is on tonight? From mid-November to New Year's, the answer depends on which end of town you mean. At Mitch Park on West Covell Road, something is lit or skating every evening for weeks. Downtown runs on a short list of dates, most of them Saturdays, and most of those end by mid-afternoon.
Visit Edmond groups all of it under the name Miracle on 2nd Street, running from November 7 through January 1. The single banner hides the useful part. The two locations keep different hours, and on the December Saturdays their schedules hand off to each other closely enough that one family can do both in a single day.
Mitch Park Keeps the Nightly Schedule
The Edmond Ice Rink is the first event on the calendar. Its 16th season at Mitch Park, 1501 W. Covell Road, runs from Saturday, November 7, through January 31, 2027, according to Visit Edmond's event listing. Regular hours are:
- Monday through Thursday, 3 to 9 p.m.
- Friday, 3 to 10 p.m.
- Saturday, noon to 10 p.m.
- Sunday, noon to 9 p.m.
General admission is $15, $13 with a military ID, and $10 if you bring your own skates. Children 5 and under are $10. Group rates, private ice and school fundraisers are also available. The rink sits next to the silo.
Two weeks later, Edmond Electric's Luminance adds a second nightly event on the other side of the parking lot. Visit Edmond's Luminance article describes the rink as just across the lot from the displays. Luminance is free and runs every night from 5 to 10 p.m., Friday, November 20, through January 1. Edmond Electric powers it and Edmond Parks and Recreation hosts it.
Luminance was small at first. According to a City Source article in Edmond Life & Leisure, it began as a 2017 preview with two displays. It opened officially in 2018 with 20, passed 30 displays by 2020 with an estimated 72,000 visitors, and now draws more than 80,000 people over its six weeks. Casey Moore, the City of Edmond's director of management services and one of the founding group behind Luminance, told the paper, "We looked around and knew we had to do more." Sherry Jordan, president and CEO of the Edmond Chamber, explained its fast growth in the same article: "It's outside. It's free and family friendly and interactive."
With both running, Mitch Park covers every evening from November 20 to New Year's Day. In the busiest school-break weeks it opens earlier. The rink runs noon to 10 p.m. daily during Thanksgiving Break, November 22 to 28, and again during Winter Break, December 20 to January 2. It closes at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and keeps noon to 10 p.m. hours on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
Opening Night Has Its Own Schedule
Luminance opens on Friday, November 20, and that evening carries the park's fullest program of the season. The celebration is set up near the baseball fields on the east side of the YMCA.
- 4 p.m. The Merry Marketplace opens. The Edmond Children's Choir and Oklahoma Youth Arts perform.
- 5:15 p.m. Official lighting ceremony
- 5:45 p.m. Tree lighting
- 6 to 8 p.m. Photos with Santa
- 6:45 p.m. Drone light show by Aerial Illuminations
The Merry Marketplace closes at 8 p.m., according to the City of Edmond's 2026 vendor application. The drone show has a new sponsor this year. The 2026 presenting sponsor is the Family of Brad Snelling, who helped bring drone shows to kickoff night. His daughter, Tiffany, is continuing that work through a new partnership with Aerial Illuminations. Parking at Mitch Park is free.
Downtown Works From a Short List
Downtown Edmond's season starts eight days earlier than Luminance and runs on fewer, fixed dates. Deck the Downtown, the tree lighting, is Thursday, November 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Festival Market Place, 26 W. First St. Downtown Edmond presents it, with a 20-foot tree, Santa and Mrs. Claus, reindeer and wagon rides. That is the season's only weeknight evening downtown with a full program.
After that, downtown events fall on scattered days around Thanksgiving week:
- Thursday, November 26. The Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Walk, which Visit Edmond calls downtown's Thanksgiving-morning tradition.
- Saturday, November 28. Small Business Saturday, with free wagon rides from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting, and a visit from the Grinch at noon, according to the Downtown Edmond calendar.
- December 2 through 22. Free visits with Santa at Citizens Bank in downtown Edmond on select Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
- Friday, December 11. The Main Street Carol Sing at Redemption Church.
Christmas in Downtown is the event that sets the weekly rhythm. It runs every Saturday from November 28 through December 19, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 15 W. Campbell St., with free wagon rides from the corner of Campbell and Broadway, weather permitting. That makes four Saturdays, all during daylight. Christmas in Downtown wraps up at 3 p.m., and Luminance turns on at 5.
The December Saturdays Run in Sequence
The two schedules come closest on December 5, 12 and 19. On each of those days, downtown's midday hours and Mitch Park's evening hours fall in order. The table lists the events by date and place.
Saturday | Downtown | Mitch Park | Elsewhere |
|---|---|---|---|
Dec. 5 | Christmas in Downtown, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; outdoor Christmas Movie Night at Broadway and Campbell | Meet Santa and Indoor Farmers Market at the MAC; Luminance 5 to 10 p.m.; rink open noon to 10 p.m. | Holiday Hop at Stephenson Park |
Dec. 12 | Christmas in Downtown, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Second Merry Marketplace, 4 to 8 p.m.; Luminance 5 to 10 p.m.; rink open noon to 10 p.m. | Cops & Claus at the Edmond Police Station |
Dec. 19 | Final Christmas in Downtown, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Merry Mitchmas 5K and 10K, 9 a.m. to noon; Luminance 5 to 10 p.m.; rink open noon to 10 p.m. |
December 5 brings Luminance indoors. Parks and Recreation is holding a joint event with the Edmond Farmers Market inside the Multi-Activity Center that day. Emily Harmon, the department's marketing coordinator, told Edmond Life & Leisure that Parks and Recreation is "excited to bring Luminance into the Multi Activity Center in 2026." The downtown movie night the same day has sponsors in Citizens Bank of Edmond, Bear Baileys and Silver Leaf Gems.
December 12 fits together most neatly of the three. Christmas in Downtown ends at 3 p.m., the second Merry Marketplace opens at Mitch Park at 4 p.m., and Luminance lights at 5. You could spend the afternoon at Campbell and Broadway and the evening at West Covell, with the drive between them as the only gap.
December 19 starts at the park instead. Red Coyote's Merry Mitchmas 5K and 10K runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Mitch Park, according to the race's RunSignup page. Downtown's final Christmas in Downtown opens at 11. The next day, December 20, the rink switches to its Winter Break schedule of noon to 10 p.m. daily.
The University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab also has a Favorite Christmas Playlist run December 3 through 6, the same week as the first of these Saturdays.
January Belongs to the Rink
The two calendars end on different dates. Luminance goes dark after January 1. The Edmond Ice Rink keeps its regular hours through Saturday, January 31, 2027, so it stays open four weeks after the lights come down. After Winter Break ends on January 2, the rink goes back to opening at 3 p.m. on weekdays and noon on weekends. January is the only stretch of the season when the park runs on the rink's schedule alone.
Jennifer Thornton, Visit Edmond's tourism director, described the appeal of Luminance in Edmond Life & Leisure: "It's a much more intimate experience than seeing lights from a car as you drive by." In practice that experience runs from 5 to 10 p.m. every night for six weeks, across the parking lot from a rink that stays open longer.
Holiday timing also affects Edmond homeowners thinking about a sale. If you're weighing a listing that would launch around these weeks, I'm glad to talk through how the calendar tends to shape showings and buyer traffic. Wyatt Poindexter offers private consultations for Edmond sellers who want a plan built around their timing.
