Navigating Tough Real Estate Markets with Faith and Determination

Navigating Tough Real Estate Markets with Faith and Determination

Real estate is a unique profession—one that brings immense highs and challenging lows. Having been in this industry for nearly 30 years, I’ve seen it all: booming markets, stagnant ones, and everything in between. What I’ve learned is that every year brings its own set of challenges, and how we respond to these challenges defines our success.

Feast or Famine: A Reality of Real Estate

You’ve likely heard the phrase “feast or famine.” In real estate, this couldn’t be more accurate. One month, your schedule is packed with closings; the next, it might feel like the phone has stopped ringing. When business slows, that’s not the time to coast—it’s the time to grind.

When things get tough, I’ve always found it helpful to double or even triple my efforts. Treat each day as if you’re clocking into a 9-to-5 job. The truth is, no one tells you to “clock in” in real estate, so you have to create that discipline for yourself. Start each day with intention:

  • Make the calls.
  • Send the emails.
  • Invest in marketing.
  • Show up like your life depends on it.

Even if you don’t have a single client, act as though you’re running the busiest business in town. Success follows consistency and hard work.

The Role of Faith and Tithing

Several years ago, I was asked to speak to a group of college students about the keys to success in real estate. One of them asked me, “What’s the #1 factor behind your success?” I paused, knowing my answer might surprise them, and said, “Tithing.”

For me, tithing—giving the first 10% of my income back to God—has been transformative. I vividly remember the first time I tithed. Within days, I experienced blessings far greater than I could have imagined. It was as if God was saying, “Trust Me, and I’ll take care of you.”

When you prioritize giving to God, He blesses your efforts in ways you can’t foresee. But it’s not just about the financial blessings—it’s about aligning your heart, mind, and actions with a higher purpose.

Building a Business on Integrity

Another cornerstone of my career has been treating clients with honesty, integrity, and loyalty. Always put your clients’ needs above your own. That’s what builds trust and long-term relationships.

Of course, not every situation is within your control. In 2024, I learned a valuable lesson: you can’t please everyone. No matter how hard you work or how much you care, some deals won’t pan out. And that’s okay. I’ve come to trust that when I lose a client or a deal, it’s often because God is protecting me from something I can’t see.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we step into 2025, it’s time to set our sights on new goals and challenges. Whether you’re a seasoned Realtor or just starting your career, remember this:

  • Take every challenge as an opportunity to grow.
  • Outwork the competition with grit and discipline.
  • Start your day by preparing your mind, body, and spirit.
  • Give it to God and trust Him with the outcome.

Real estate is a journey, and every step—every challenge—is shaping you into the best version of yourself. You’re only one decision away from a totally different life.

Ready to Take Your Business to the Next Level?

If you’re ready to elevate your real estate career, focus on what matters most: faith, integrity, and hard work. Have a blessed and successful 2025!
